After studying the recorder at the conservatories of Brussels, Leuven and Milan, and musicology at the University of Leuven and Paris-Sorbonne IV, Felicia Bockstael worked as a programmer for VRT Klara (classical service of the Flemish national broadcaster) and as a recording producer and editor, mainly for the MotorMusic outfit in Mechelen.
Felicia has recorded and edited any line-up from small-scale chamber ensembles to fully-fledged symphony orchestras. She is appreciated for applying her profound grasp of historically informed performing to extracting the essence of repertoire ranging from 14th century polyphony to contemporary creations.
Felicia has collaborated with acclaimed early music conductors and their ensembles (including Philippe Herreweghe and Collegium Vocale, Hervé Niquet and Le Concert Spirituel, Lionel Meunier and Vox Luminis), but also with celebrated orchestras like the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra or the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester. She has enjoyed long-term recording relationships with acclaimed soloists such as Pieter Wispelwey, Linus Roth, Roeland Hendrikx and Isabelle van Keulen.
A great number of her collaborations with engineer Steven Maes have been applauded in leading outlets (BBC Music Magazine, Gramophone, Diapason)on national broadcasters (BBC, France Musique, RAI) and on labels such as Evil Penguin, Alpha, Deutsche Grammophon, Channel Classics, Glossa, Antarctica.
